Josh was born in Sydney in 1979 and moved to the Central Coast with his parents and older brother Ben in 1980. He attended the Central Coast Grammar School from the age of nine and studied art throughout his life, concluding with the H.S.C. He is now studying at Julian Ashton's Art School in Sydney and is enjoying the stimulating atmosphere.
Josh has always shown a keen interest in drawing and painting from an early age, often working alongside his artist father, Peter Fennell. This has helped him to develop his very own individual approach to his works. He has always had a broad appreciation of styles and techniques, but he tends to look more towards figurative studies, especially in pastels and oils. His love too of the Australian Countryside and beaches is obvious in his landscapes.
By 1998, Josh was exhibiting in several Sydney galleries and had won the Hunter Valley Grammar School "Open Oils Award". In 2001, Josh won a highly contested major prize at the prestigious Camberwell Art Show comprising a $10,000 travel grant for study overseas.
